8 is on purpose. A twenty activity board looks like better value on a listing, and then a one year old opens it, cannot work out where to start, and closes it again. 8 pages is enough variety for a long flight and few enough that they can find their way back to a favorite.
The pieces come off. That is the activity.
Shapes, animal faces and emotion faces all lift away and press back on. Taking them off, working out where they go and putting them back is the whole point, and it is what keeps a toddler at one page instead of flicking past it.
Every fastener is sewn into the felt rather than glued on, so the pieces stay usable after months of being pulled off and pressed back. Each page has a home for its own pieces, so they go away with the book instead of scattering across the floor.

Travelling
This giraffe busy book is great for travelling with kids. The materials are soft but strong. Each part is sewn well. I like that there are a variety of activities in the book, including matching colors, making real life pictures, and just having fun. The velcro works well for using this book while traveling and keeping the parts from sliding off easily.
Quiet time at home
This is a great travel activity and fits easily into a diaper bag. It's also keeps them entertained during quiet time. I'm very happy with it and we're getting a lot of use out of it!

The questions we get asked most.
How long will it actually hold my toddler's attention?
Longer than a single toy, shorter than a film, and it depends on the child. The useful thing is that each page is a separate task, so you can hold two or three pages back and bring them out later in a flight rather than opening everything at once. The pages parents tell us their children come back to most are the caterpillar threading and the animal faces.
The pieces come off. Is that safe?
The pieces are meant to come off, because taking them off and putting them back is the activity. They attach with fasteners sewn into the felt rather than glued on, so they do not peel away on their own the way adhesive dots do. We recommend close supervision under 18 months, the same as you would with any toy that has parts.
What age is it for?
6 months to 5 years, with close supervision recommended under 18 months. At the youngest end it is mostly texture and colour, pulling a piece off and pressing it back. Around two they start matching on purpose. By four and five they are sorting the shapes and naming the feelings on the giraffe page. It is one of the few toys that stays useful across that whole stretch rather than being outgrown in a month.
Why is it more than the $10 ones I have seen?
Two reasons, and they are both things you find out after you buy. The cheap versions arrive as a felt sheet with pieces you punch out and stick on yourself, and they use adhesive dots that lift off the felt after a week of real play. Ours arrives finished, with every fastener sewn in. It is the difference between a toy that survives a toddler and one that becomes a bag of loose felt.
Do the pieces get lost?
Every piece has a place on its own page, so when the book closes the pieces close inside it. That is the main reason it works on a plane, where anything that hits the floor is gone. It is still worth doing a quick check of the pages before you pack it away.
Is it quiet enough for a plane or a restaurant?
Yes. There is no sound at all, no batteries and no screen, so there is nothing to mute and nothing to charge. It works in a quiet carriage, in a waiting room and at a table without anybody turning around.
How do I clean it?
Spot clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry flat. Do not put it through the washing machine or soak it, as felt holds water and takes a long time to dry properly.
Does it need any assembly?
None. It arrives finished and ready to open, which matters if you are giving it as a gift or reaching for it in the car park before a flight.

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
